What is Wheel Offset (ET)?
Wheel offset is the distance between the center of the wheel and the mounting surface that touches the hub. It is measured in millimeters and falls into three categories:
- Zero Offset: The mounting surface is exactly in the center of the wheel.
- Positive Offset: The mounting surface is toward the front (street side) of the wheel. This is common in most modern front-wheel-drive cars.
- Negative Offset: The mounting surface is toward the back (brake side) of the wheel center line, often found on deep-dish wheels for trucks or older rear-wheel-drive vehicles.

Will a wider wheel change my offset? No, width and offset are separate measurements. However, they both affect the final position of the wheel. A wider wheel with the same offset will extend further both inward and outward.
What is backspacing? While offset measures from the center line, backspacing measures from the mounting surface to the very back edge of the wheel. Both measurements describe the same geometry from different perspectives.
Can I use spacers to fix offset? Yes, adding a wheel spacer effectively reduces positive offset, pushing the wheel further away from the hub. For example, an ET45 wheel with a 10mm spacer effectively becomes ET35.
