The Formula for Slip Ratio
The standard formula used in this calculator is: ((Wheel Speed - Vehicle Speed) / Vehicle Speed) × 100. This result is expressed as a percentage. When the wheel is spinning faster than the car is moving (common during acceleration), the slip ratio is positive. Conversely, when the wheel is moving slower than the vehicle (common during braking), the slip ratio is negative.
Why is Slip Ratio Important?
For performance driving, racing, and safety systems like ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and Traction Control, the slip ratio is the key metric.
