The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is the gateway for aspirants to join the Indian Air Force as Commissioned Officers in Flying and Ground Duty branches. One of the most critical eligibility criteria for candidates is the age limit, which varies significantly depending on the branch and specific entry type.

Flying Branch Age Criteria

For the Flying Branch, candidates must typically be between 20 to 24 years of age. The Indian Air Force usually sets a reference date (such as July 1st or January 1st of the training year) to determine age. It is important to note that the upper age limit for candidates holding a valid and current Commercial Pilot License (CPL) issued by DGCA (India) is often relaxable up to 26 years.

Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Age Criteria

For both Technical and Non-Technical Ground Duty branches, the age limit is slightly higher. Candidates must be between 20 to 26 years of age on the prescribed reference date. Unlike the Flying Branch, there are fewer concessions for age in these roles, as they demand stability and technical expertise that candidates develop through their educational qualifications.
